Sisterhood at Agudath Achim

Agudath Achim’s Sisterhood was originally known as the Ladies Auxiliary as of 1916.  In 1959, the name was changed to Sisterhood per Women’s League of United Synagogue guidelines.

To commemorate the founding of Women’s League typically in January, we have the annual Sisterhood Shabbat Dinner and Service.  The Sisterhood members lead the service and do the sermon.  For the last several years the Sisterhood Shabbat Dinner has been Matzo Ball Gumbo, inspired by the book Matzoh Ball Gumbo, Culinary Tales of the Jewish South.

Sisterhood also sponsors Purim, Chanukah and Simchat Torah covered dish dinners.  Additionally, Sisterhood’s Social Service project of collecting toiletries for patients of the Council of Alcoholism and Drug Abuses inpatient programs.  Recently our Sisterhood has partnered with B’nai Zion’s Sisterhood in collecting toiletries for our project and Box Top labels for their project.
